2020 Fantasy Football Why You Should Draft Kenny Golladay

NFL Free Agency is officially underway! We will be updating the 2021 Fantasy Football Transaction Tracker with all the signings and trades from around the NFL as they come in

Free agency officially starts today, March 16th, and although there’s a lowered salary cap this year, there hasn’t been any limit to the action. Before the legal tampering period began this week, we had already seen many intriguing developments.

The Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions swapped quarterbacks, with Jared Goff and two future first-round picks headed to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford.
The Philadelphia Eagles traded former wunderkind and MVP candidate Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-rounder that could become a first. More here: Carson Wentz Trade Impact
Quarterback Deshaun Watson requested a trade from the dysfunctional Houston Texans.
Former Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt was granted his release from the aforementioned Texans and signed a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Quarterback Dak Prescott agreed to a four-year, $160 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
Future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees announced his retirement.

Los Angeles Chargers sign TE Jared Cook

The Chargers sign Jared Cook to replace Hunter Henry, who signed with the Patriots.

Now 34 years old, Cook’s best days are behind him, but he can still be a serviceable target for young Justin Herbert. His two-year averages of 40 catches, 604.5 yards, and eight touchdowns are very comparable to Henry’s 57.5 catches, 632.5 yards, and 4.5 touchdowns.

Detroit Lions sign WR Breshad Perriman

After adding Tyrell Williams earlier this offseason, the Lions add Breshad Perriman, whose father also played for the Lions.

Perriman was a bust with Baltimore after dealing with multiple injuries but has turned his career around, totaling 1,150 yards and nine touchdowns over his past two seasons. He’s a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Lions, who badly need to replace the departing Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones.

Miami Dolphins sign WR Will Fuller

The Dolphins have given Tua Tagovvailoa a deep threat, signing receiver Will Fuller to a one-year contract on Thursday. Fuller was having the best season of his career in 2020 before being suspended six games for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

In just 11 games, the former Houston Texan caught 53 passes for 879 yards and eight touchdowns. More importantly, Fuller looked healthy and managed to play every game before his suspension.

The 26-year-old should immediately become the No.1 option in the Dolphin offense should easily eclipse 100 targets for the first time in his career, if he can play a full 16 games. Keep in mind he will be suspended for Week 1 of the new 17 game season.

Buffalo Bills sign QB Mitchell Trubisky

There’s a quarterback controversy brewing in Buffalo. MVP candidate Josh Allen will now compete with Nickolodeon’s Most Valuable player Mitch Trubisky.

Obviously, Trubisky is the clear backup here as Bills GM Brandon Beane has already said this year will be a “reset” for the former Chicago Bear and that he is not the long-term solution behind Allen.

Las Vegas Raiders sign RB Kenyan Drake

It’s a worst-case scenario for Josh Jacobs owners. Former Arizona Cardinal Kenyan Drake has agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $14.5 million with the Raiders.

The amount of guaranteed money the Raiders shelled out for Drake implies he will be used quite a bit. Last season, Drake scored 10 rushing touchdowns, 10th most in the league and seventh-most among running backs. With another capable runner in the backfield, Jacobs could see a decrease from the 12 touchdowns he scored in 2020.

Jacobs will likely see the majority of early-down work but Drake’s versatility and pass-catching ability should make him a third-down staple in Vegas.

Washington Football Team signs WR Curtis Samuel

One of the most coveted free-agent receivers has landed in Washington as the team signed Samuel to a three-year deal worth up to $34.5 million.

Samuel is coming off of a career year with the Panthers, catching 77 passes for 851 yards and three touchdowns. The versatile wideout also added 200 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Samuel and his Ohio State teammate Terry McLaurin will provide plenty of fireworks for the Washington offense, especially with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm. Now playing with a quarterback who’s not afraid to air it out, Samuel has a great opportunity to improve on his 2020 output.

New York Giants sign TE Kyle Rudolph

The Giants added veteran tight end, Kyle Rudolph, on a two-year, $16 million deal.

When healthy, Evan Engram will remain the main pass-catching tight end for the Giants. However, Rudolph did average six touchdowns per year between 2015-2019 and could steal some red-zone work from Engram.

The former Minnesota Viking won’t produce enough to be worth drafting in Fantasy but should help the Giants’ running game with his blocking ability, and provide some red-zone upside if Engram misses any time.

Seattle Seahawks sign TE Gerald Everett

The Seahawks gave Russell Wilson another weapon in the form of pass-catching tight end Gerald Everett. The 26-year old signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Seahawks and should play the most TE snaps for the team.

Last season, Everett caught 42 passes for 417 yards and two touchdowns. The former Los Angeles Ram should be the No.3 passing option behind Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, giving him a good opportunity to surpass his previous career numbers.

Arizona Cardinals sign WR A.J. Green

The Cardinals continue to add weapons for Kyler Murray, adding former Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green on a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million.

However, Green does not seem to be the player he once was. After missing the 2019 season due to injury, he turned in a career-worst 47 catches for 523 yards and two touchdowns in 2020.

He’s still only 33 years old, so it’s possible he turns it around. But it’s hard to see him being a viable fantasy option with DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk clearly ahead of him.

Las Vegas Raiders sign WR John Brown

The Raiders scoop up former Buffalo Bill John Brown to replace departed receiver Nelson Agholor. Brown signed for a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million.

Brown posted a career year in 2019 with the Bills, catching 72 balls for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns. He missed seven games in 2020 and was released by the Bills earlier this offseason.

The Raiders hope Brown will bring some veteran presence to a young receiving corps that currently includes second-year players Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards.

Washington Football Team signs RB Lamar Miller

The Washington Football Team makes a depth signing, adding Lamar Miller on a one-year deal.

Miller has not played in an NFL game since 2018 when he took 210 carries for 973 yards and five touchdowns for the Houston Texans.

Detroit Lions sign RB Jamaal Williams

The Lions agreed with Jamaal Williams on a two-year deal worth up to $7.5 million.

Williams has been one of the league’s best backups for the last four years and he will likely continue that role in Detroit, backing up DeAndre Swift. Unfortunately, this likely limits the upside of Swift, although he still projects to be a strong RB2.

Buffalo Bills sign WR Emmanuel Sanders

Sanders was released by the Saints earlier this week but quickly finds a new home with the Buffalo Bills. The Bills signed Sanders to a one-year, $6 million deal and he will replace recently-released John Brown.

Sanders is 34 and on the downside of his career, but still put up a respectable 61 catches for 726 yards and five touchdowns for New Orleans in 2020. He likely won’t repeat those numbers as he is going to be the third or fourth option in this passing attack.

Miami Dolphins sign RB Malcolm Brown

Miami adds Malcolm Brown to a committee that already has Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. He’s a depth signing that may not even make the final roster depending on what the Dolphins do in the draft.

Miami Dolphins sign QB Jacoby Brissett

The Dolphins find Tua Tagovailoa‘s next backup in Brissett, signing him to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million. Hopefully, Brissett doesn’t also outplay him.

Jacksonville Jaguars sign WR Marvin Jones Jr

The Jaguars add a weapon for Trevor Lawrence in the veteran Marvin Jones Jr, who has been one of the more underrated players in recent memory. He has caught nine touchdowns in three of the last four seasons.

Jones is a career WR2 and he will fill that role again in Duval, lining up across from WR1 DJ Chark. Lawrence could do worse to start his career.

Houston Texans sign QB Tyrod Taylor

Another quarterback is taken off the market as the Texans sign Tyrod Taylor to a one-year deal, worth up to $12.5 million.

While this could signal the end of the Deshaun Watson-era, this contract is also on the high-end for a backup quarterback. It’s similar to what Marcus Mariota made last year. This gives the Texans some flexibility in discussions surrounding Watson, knowing they have Taylor waiting in the wings.

Chicago Bears sign QB Andy Dalton

Apologies to all my Bears fans out there. After an offseason of speculation about potentially trading for Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson, the Bears end up with good ole Andy Dalton.

Dalton was signed to a one-year, $10 million contract (with incentives) which implies he may be the starter over Nick Foles ($6 million in 2021). Yikes. #FreeAllenRobinson.

New York Giants sign WR John Ross

The Giants add some speed on the outside with former first-round pick John Ross. It is a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

New England Patriots sign TE Hunter Henry

Whether you thought Hunter Henry was the best tight end available or Jonnu Smith was, it doesn’t really matter anymore as the Patriots scooped them both up. Henry joins the Patriots on a three-year, $37.5 million deal. He caught 60 balls for 613 yards and four touchdowns in 2020.

It’s hard not to view the pairing of Henry and Smith as a new-age Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. They have similar complementary skill sets and athletic profiles. Let’s just hope neither of them is a mur- nevermind.

One thing of concern is that by signing both these players, New England effectively kills the fantasy value of both of them. Come draft day, it’ll be impossible to figure out which of them will post better numbers. My guess would be that neither will be usable week-to-week as Cam won’t have enough passing volume to support both of them consistently.

Washington Football Team signs QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

After releasing the 2020 Comeback Player of the Year, Alex Smith, the Washington Football Team finds a new veteran quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is expected to start.

Fitzpatrick was unceremoniously benched in the middle of the 2020 season for Tua Tagovailoa. However, in the seven games he started, he averaged 18.87 fantasy points per game, which would have landed him a QB11 finish.

Most importantly, Fitzpatrick’s arrival could spell greatness for Terry McLaurin. F1 is one of the league’s most talented pass-catchers but was held back by mediocre quarterback play in Washington. Fitzpatrick is a bit inconsistent but has shown he can get his guys the ball.

New England Patriots sign WR Kendrick Bourne

Big Bucks Bill strikes again as the Patriots sign Kendrick Bourne to a three-year, $22.5 million deal.

Bourne was a reliable target with the San Francisco 49ers for the past four years, but never eclipsed 680 yards or five touchdowns in any seasons. He is a career WR3 and will likely slot into that role behind N’Keal Harry and Nelson Agholor (assuming he can beat out Jakobi Meyers and Julian Edelman does not return).

New York Giants sign RB Devontae Booker

Devontae Booker was serviceable both as a back-up to and fill-in for Josh Jacobs in Las Vegas last season. The Giants sign him to a two-year, $6 million deal, immediately making him one of the league’s top handcuffs to Saquon Barkley.

New York Jets sign WR Corey Davis

The Jets add a weapon for Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or Sam Darnold (I guess), signing Corey Davis to a three-year, $37.5 million deal.

The fifth overall pick in 2017 is coming off a career season when he recorded 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns. He’s expected to lead a receiving corps that includes sophomore Denzel Mims and slot receiver Jamison Crowder.

New England Patriots sign WR Nelson Agholor

On the heels of one big signing, Belichick adds another weapon for Cam in Nelson Agholor, who signed for two-years, $26 million.

Agholor is coming off a career year as the #2 option on the Las Vegas Raiders to tight end Darren Waller. He posted 48 receptions for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, finishing as the WR21 on the season.

It’s easy to envision a similar role as a complementary player to Jonnu Smith for him in New England. Newton has also always excelled with a downfield threat such as Ted Ginn Jr. or DJ Moore and Agholor brings that element.

New England Patriots sign TE Jonnu Smith

The Patriots make the first big splash of the offseason, luring away tight end Jonnu Smith from the Tennessee Titans with a four-year, $50 million deal.

Smith, who caught 41 balls for 448 yards and eight touchdowns, finished as the TE9 in 2020 and has a chance to build on that as Cam Newton‘s primary target. With Newton under center, here are Greg Olsen‘s yearly finishes at the TE position from 2012-2016: 6th, 8th, 4th, 4th, and 3rd.

In Tennessee, Smith was often the third option in a crowded passing attack that already took a backseat to their run game. There’s no such talent in New England to get in his way and we know Bill Belichick knows how to utilize tight ends.

Houston Texans sign RB Mark Ingram

The Texans add another aging back to their backfield led by the returning David Johnson, signing Ingram to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million.

Ingram is coming off a career-worst season where he only had 72 attempts for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

Detroit Lions sign WR Tyrell Williams

In preparation of losing Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr, and Danny Amendola, the Lions signed Tyrell Williams to a one-year, $6.2 contract.

Williams missed the entire 2020 season with a shoulder injury. He last caught 42 passes for 651 yards and six touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019.
